What We’ve Been Up To…

In case you haven’t heard, we have successfully completed our first webinar, in our series of collaborative webinars!

Ultra-Heavy Copper is a topic that even the industry masters have more to learn about. With the onset of Electronic and Autonomous vehicles and the advances in all technologies, especially LED lighting, we’ve seen a huge uptick in the demand for heavy copper PCBs. This of course comes with designers and engineers inquiring for more information about heavy copper technology. For this reason, we gathered five of our most knowledgeable industry gurus around the table to discuss cutting edge technologies. If you were a part of this interactive session, we thank you for your attendance and all of your probing questions!

Message from the President

Last month, Congressional member Bill Posey introduced a piece of legislation, H. R. 7594, to bring manufacturing jobs back to America from China. Read about the bill here.

This bill, called the RAM Act (Re-shoring American Manufacturing Act of 2020), will provide tax credits for companies that bring manufacturing equipment back to America and put it into production.

Research the RAM Act, and then follow up with your Congressional representative. I encourage you to tell your representatives what you like about the bill, and that you want it supported. Even a small number of contacts from constituents (sometimes, even fewer than ten) will seismically influence federal Senators and Representatives in Congress.

Other on-shoring related topics you could bring up with your Senators and Reps include a demand that ITAR (International Traffic in Arms Regulations) rules be enforced. ITAR regulates the import and export of military equipment, technology, and services. According to ITAR, our fighter planes should be built with American parts. Yet, this rule is routinely ignored. As I covered in the last Chris’s Corner installment, this is low-hanging fruit for on-shoring efforts. Why not just enforce the regulations currently on the books?

Message from the IPC

Shawn DuBravac

August 10, 2020 — Economic data from May and June suggest the U.S. economy was on the mend, but the rise of COVID-19 cases in late June and early July altered that outlook, likely causing a halt to business investment as companies wait for a more certain economic environment.

In response to the ongoing changes in the economy, IPC created the IPC Monthly Economic Report to provide data on the economy, industrial production, capacity utilization, PCB demand, and industry employment, particularly as it relates to the electronics manufacturing industry.

“We are currently experiencing one of the most volatile periods in our economic history,” said Shawn DuBravac, IPC chief economist. “How that turbulence affects the manufacturing industry is of great interest to our members, and we hope that this information will be of benefit as they make critical decisions about their businesses in the months ahead.”
